HONG KONG, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks edged higher on Monday in holiday-thinned trade, with much of the investment community and many Asian markets ushering in the new year.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI opened at 27,437.94, or 0.25 percent above Friday's close.
The more volatile China Enterprises index of H shares .HSCE, or Hong Kong-listed shares in mainland companies, was up nearly 1 percent as of 0204 GMT. (Reporting by Edwin Chan; Editing by Anne Marie Roantree)
