Hong Kong shares open 2.17 pct lower as oil weighs

HONG KONG, June 12 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares opened 2.2 percent lower on Thursday with a more than $5 per barrel surge in crude oil prices overnight sounding alarm bells on rising inflation and a global economic slowdown.

The Hang Seng Index was down 506.71 points at 22,820.89 at the outset.

The China Enterprises Index .HSCE of top locally listed mainland companies gave up 2.39 percent. (Reporting by Parvathy Ullatil; Editing by Edwin Chan)
