HK Hot Stocks-Chalco, Foxconn top gainers
HONG KONG, July 11 (Reuters) - At 0323 GMT, the Hang Seng Index .HSI was 3.79 points lower at 21,817.99.
The China Enterprises Index .HSCE of Chinese stocks listed in Hong Kong outperformed with a 0.6 percent rise, led by financials, as the nation's No. 2 bank joined three other lenders in issuing a positive earnings estimate for the first half.
Here are some of the stocks on the move.
* Shares in Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco) (2600.HK) surged 5.9 percent after international aluminium prices jumped to a record high on output cuts by China's top producers.
China's top 20 aluminium producers had agreed to cut production by 5-10 percent from July to push up aluminium prices and reduce power consumption, smelter sources told Reuters on Thursday. [ID:nSP157888]
HSBC upgraded Chalco to neutral from underweight after the news, saying the production cuts may result in lower Chinese exports, which would help reduce the market surplus.
* Foxconn International Holdings (2038.HK), the world's largest contract maker of handsets, rose 6.4 percent after its Taiwanese parent, Hon Hai Precision (2317.TW), downplayed recent media reports about potential loss of business in an ongoing dispute with China's BYD (1211.HK).
Foxconn and BYD are embroiled in a dispute now being heard in court, with the former accusing the latter of stealing trade secrets. [ID:nTP252025]
* Sinopec Corp (0386.HK), Asia's largest refiner, sank 1.8 percent as oil prices held above $141 per barrel on higher geopolitical risks in the Middle East after Iran test-fired missiles this week.
* China National Materials Co Ltd (1893.HK) jumped 5.1 percent after its subsidiary, Sinoma International (600970.SS), said it had won $1.45 billion in contracts to build cement plants for Nigeria's Dangote group.
Sinoma will build six cement production lines in Tanzania, Congo, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Equatorial Guinea, the statement said. (Reporting by Parvathy Ullatil; Editing by Anne Marie Roantree)
