HK Hot Stocks - Coal, power and oil stocks slump

HONG KONG, July 25 (Reuters) - At 0322 the Hang Seng Index .HSI was 1.5 percent lower at 22,734.58 , with financials leading the way, as investors locked in gains from a recent rally.

The China Enterprises Index .HSCE of top locally-listed Chinese stocks was down 2.7 percent.

Here are some of the stocks on the move in late morning trade.

* China Shenhua Energy (1088.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) fell over 7 percent, adding to Thursday's 4.9 percent fall, after Beijing announced stricter price controls on thermal coal used by power plants.

China Coal Energy (1898.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the nation's second largest coal miner, lost 5.1 percent while smaller rival Yanzhou Coal (1171.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) dropped 5.2 percent.

* Shares in Datang International Power (0991.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), China's second-largest listed electricity provider, fell 5.9 percent after it estimated its first-half net profit fell more than 70 percent due to a sharp rise in coal prices.

Huaneng shares fell more than 6 percent on Friday. China's top independent power producer Huaneng Power International (0902.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said earlier this month it may have made a loss in the January-June period, also because of higher coal prices.

*China Communications Construction (1800.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) was down 5.6 percent, after tumbling as much as 7 percent earlier, following a Citigroup downgrade on the stock to hold from buy on the recent sharp share price rally. Shares in the mainland's top builder of highways and ports has rallied nearly 16 percent since the begining of July.

*Bourse operator Hong Kong Exchnages & Clearing (0388.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), which scaled a five-week high on Thursday, gave up 3.2 percent as investors jumped in to lock in gains after the overnight slump on Wall Street.  Continued...
