HK Hot Stocks: Telecoms rise, Manulife falls
HONG KONG, May 9 (Reuters) - Here are some stocks on the move in Hong Kong on Friday.
As of 0240 GMT, the benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI had edged up 0.02 percent to 25,455.79 points. The index opened down 0.19 percent.
The China Enterprises Index of Hong Kong-listed mainland companies .HSCE, or H shares, was up 0.16 percent at 13,909.18 points.
STOCKS ON THE MOVE:
* Chinese Telecom plays jumped on speculation that an industry reshuffle could come soon.
Mobile carrier China Unicom (0762.HK) rose nearly 3 percent, while fixed-line operator China Telecom (0728.HK) jumped more than 3 percent and its smaller rival China Netcom 0906.HK rose 2 percent.
* Ping An Insurance (2318.HK) rose nearly 3 percent after it
said it would not issue new domestic shares for at least six
months due to volatile capital markets in China. [ID:nHKG17825]
* Manulife Financials (0945.HK)(MFC.TO) fell 5 percent after its net income fell to C$869 million in the first quarter, from C$986 million in the year-ago period, due to sharp declines in the U.S. and Asia equity markets. For details please see here
* Pacific Basin Shipping Ltd (2343.HK) fell 7 percent after
the bulk shipping firm said it would sell up to HK$2.14 billion
(US$275 million) worth of new shares to fund expansion
