HK Hot Stocks: Mainland banks jump, Dongfeng up
HONG KONG, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Here are some stocks on the move in Hong Kong on Tuesday:
As of 0222 GMT, the blue-chip Hang Seng Index .HSI was up 1.5 percent, outpacing gains in other Asian markets.
The index opened up 1.2 percent at 24,040.66.
STOCKS ON THE MOVE:
* China Everbright Ltd (0165.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), which holds a stake in mid-sized lender China Everbright Bank, jumped 2.2 percent to HK$16.52. An executive with the state-run China Everbright financial conglomerate told Reuters that China Everbright Bank was on track to list in Shanghai in the second half of this year [ID:nHKG357627].
* Bank of China (3988.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) shot up 5.6 percent to HK$3.23 in heavy trade. Its chairman said the bank had made sufficient provisions to cover all its exposure to the sub-prime credit market and would report "marked" profit growth for 2007. Chairman Xiao Gang also said on Monday that the lender was actively looking to buy into a life insurer some time this year [ID:nSP353988].
* Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd (1398.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) vaulted 2.1 percent to HK$5.31 after saying on Monday its non-performing loan ratio had dropped further in 2007 thanks to enhanced risk controls [ID:nPEK353243].
* China's Dongfeng Motor Group Co (0489.HK: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) climbed 1.7 percent to HK$5.46 a day after saying it recorded 20 percent growth in vehicle sales in January, although sales at its venture with PSA Peugeot Citroen (PEUP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) had slipped as auto parts supplies were disrupted by snow storms [ID:0489.HK] (Reporting by Rita Chang; editing by Anne Marie Roantree)
