GlobalSantaFe shares rise on merger

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of GlobalSantaFe Corp. GSF.N rose before the opening bell on Monday after the offshore driller and Transocean Inc. (RIG.N), its larger rival, said they would merge.

GlobalSantaFe shares rose 6 percent to $79.24 in electronic composite trading. Transocean shares were up 4.3 percent to $114.69 in lighter volume.
