TAIPEI, July 6 Taiwan smartphone maker HTC Corp
posted a doubling of net profit in the second quarter,
beating market expectations and boosted by surging customer
demand for its high-tech gadgets.
The world's No.5 handset maker's second-quarter profit was
T$17.52 billion ($608.44 million), compared to T$8.64 billion a
year earlier, it said on Wednesday. It did not give any details
in its statement.
A poll by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S of 10 analysts had yielded
a median forecast of a profit of T$16.53 billion.
The company said on Sunday its consolidated sales for June
were up 87.8 percent from the same month a year earlier,
reaching a record monthly sales of T$45.05 billion.
HTC will hold a briefing on the Q2 results later in July.
