REYKJAVIK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Iceland's government said on Tuesday it was to seek talks with Canadian group Magma Energy Corp MXY.TO on shortening its ownership lease of geothermal energy producer HS Orka.

Singer Bjork has led a campaign to get the coalition government to undo the Orka deal, protesting against the sale of the North Atlantic island's rich natural energy assets.

The government also said in a statement it wanted to negotiate an option to buy back Magma's shares in Orka. (Reporting by Omar Valdimarsson)
