US gold ends down on dollar after new 3-week low

 NEW YORK, Oct 28 (Reuters) - New York gold futures ended 
down half a percent on Wednesday, hitting 3-week lows for a
third straight session, as the dollar made further gains
against the euro.

 GOLD
 * December gold futures GCZ9 settles down $4.90, or 0.5
percent, at $1,030.50 an ounce on the COMEX division of NYMEX.
 * Ranged from $1,042.60 to $1,027.10 -- the weakest price
since Oct. 6. December scaled a record high $1,072 on Oct. 14.
 * The dollar reasserted its strength .DXY against the
euro, wiping out early gains in gold. Weak equity markets and
doubts about global growth prospects also prompted traders to
favor the U.S. currency over gold as a safe-haven.
 * COMEX estimated volume stood at 137,209 lots at 1:00 p.m.
EDT (1700 GMT).
 * Spot gold XAU= at $1,027.70 an ounce, against $1,038.70
late in New York in the previous session.
 * London's afternoon gold fix XAUFIX= at $1,031.75.
 SILVER
 * December silver SIZ9 ends down 30 cents, or 1.8
percent, at $16.24 an ounce.
 * Ranged from $16.155 to $16.77.
 * COMEX estimated volume by 1:00 p.m. was 43,533 lots.
 * Spot silver XAG= was at $16.14 versus the $16.61 level
seen late Tuesday in New York.
 * London silver fix XAGFIX= at $16.33.
 PLATINUM
 * January platinum PLF0 settles down $12.10, or 0.9
percent, at $1,306.90 an ounce.
 * Spot platinum XPT= was at $1,301.50, compared with late
Tuesday's quote of $1,316.50 in New York.
 PALLADIUM
 * December palladium PAZ9 finishes down $13.15, or 4
percent, at $317.40 an ounce.
 * Spot palladium XPD= was at $314 compared with the
previous session's close at $325.50.
