Week ahead in Asia & Pacific from March 21

    Following are some of the main Asia and Pacific news events 
expected this week (all times GMT).

    SATURDAY, March 21 
    BANGKOK - Parliament votes on an opposition motion of 
no-confidence in Prime Minister Abihisit Vejjajiva and members of 
his Cabinet. 
    BRISBANE - Australian Premier Kevin Rudd's home state of 
Queensland holds election, with the centre-left Labor premier in 
danger of defeat.

    MONDAY, MARCH 23 
    MUMBAI - Tata Motors  launches the much-hyped Nano, 
the world's cheapest car, after a six-month delay. Chairman Ratan 
Tata to hold press conference ahead of unveiling. 
    SYDNEY - Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board expected 
to hand its recommendation to Treasurer Wayne Swan, who has the 
final say on Chinese state-owned Minmetals'<1208.HK> $1.7 billion 
rescue bid for OZ Minerals , the world's second biggest 
zinc miner. 
    MUMBAI - The trial of a man, who India says is the lone 
survivor of the group that attacked the city in November, begins.

   TUESDAY, MARCH 24  
   HONG KONG/SHANGHAI -  China's flagship foreign exchange 
lender, Bank of China, <3988.HK> <601988.SS> and its Hong Kong 
unit report Q4 results. 
   TAIPEI - Release of data on Taiwan's export orders, which is 
expected to show that orders fell for the fifth straight month in 
February on slowing demand from key economies. However, analysts 
forecast the pace of the decline probably slowed down compared 
with January as factories worked to meet a rush of orders from 
China. 
   BEIJING - Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith visits 
China for trade and security talks with his counterpart Yang 
Jiechi. Australia is a major exporter of commodities to China and 
is part of multilateral security talks with Japan and United 
States that some see as aimed at containing China's recent 
forward-looking military posture.

    WEDNESDAY, March 25 
    HONG KONG - Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) 
<601398.SS> <1398.HK> China's top lender, to announce Q4 results. 
    HONG KONG - PetroChina, <0857.HK>  <601857.SS> Asia's 
top oil and gas producer is seen posting flat Q4 earnings. The 
firm has kept its investments steady this year and cut domestic 
production targets due to weak demand and falling prices. 
    HONG KONG - China Life,<2628.HK> <601628.SS> the world's 
largest insurer to report Q4 results.

    THURSDAY, MARCH 26  
    TAIPEI - Taiwan's central bank expected to cut interest rates 
by a quarter from an already record-low 1.25 percent as a slump 
in the island's key export industry threatens to push the economy 
deeper in recession. 
    KUALA LUMPUR - Finance Minister Najib Razak to be nominated 
premier by United Malays National Organisation, the dominant 
party in Malaysia's ruling coalition. The date when he actually 
takes over from Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi has not yet been 
set.

    FRIDAY, MARCH 27 
    TOKYO - Japan releases consumer prices for February. 
    WELLINGTON - New Zealand reports Q4 gross domestic product 
figure. The economy is deep in recession and contracted in the 
third quarter the most in eight years. Another quarter of 
contraction would be the fourth in a row. 
    HONG KONG - Chalco, <601600.SS> <2600.HK> China's top 
aluminium and alumina maker, is expected to report sharply lower 
H2 earnings on sliding aluminium prices and higher costs. The 
market will focus on parent company's planned $19.5 billion 
tie-up with Rio Tinto  . 
    HONG KONG - Sinopec <0386.HK>, Asia's top refiner, seen 
reporting higher Q4 earnings due to lower crude oil prices.  
    HONG KONG - China Construction Bank <0939.HK> <601939.SS>, 
the country's no.3 lender to report Q4 earnings. Growth is seen 
slowing as the economy loses steam. 
    SHANGHAI - Baosteel, China's largest steelmaker, reports Q4 
results. 
    HONG KONG -  Shenhua,<601088.SS> the world's most valuable 
coal producer, reports Q4 results.
