Sino-Thai wins second purple line Bangkok rail contract

BANGKOK, June 11 (Reuters) - Thailand's Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction STEC.BK has offered the lowest bid to build a section of Bangkok's 36 billion baht ($1.1 billion) "purple line" mass transit project, a government agency said on Thursday.

Sino-Thai's 15.3 billion baht bid for the 11 km (6.8 mile) section was below the 15.6 billion baht and 16.3 billion baht bid by two rival firms, an official at the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) told reporters.

It is the second of three contracts for the elevated train line, which will stretch 23 km (14 miles) from Bang Sue in northern Bangkok to Bang Yai in the neighbouring province of Nonthaburi. ($1=34.06 Baht) (Writing by Khettiya Jittapong; Editing by Darren Schuettler)
