UPDATE 1-Caliper Life Sciences posts wider Q2 loss

Aug 6 (Reuters) - Caliper Life Sciences Inc (CALP.O) posted a wider-than-expected quarterly loss as its license revenue declined and certain contracts were delayed.
Net loss for the secoond quarter was $6.7 million, or 14 cents per share, compared with a loss of $6.3 million, or 13 cents per share, a year earlier. Excluding items, it posted a loss of 7 cents a share.
Total revenue decreased nearly 4 percent to $34.0 million. License fees and contract revenue fell almost 50 percent to $2.7 million.
Revenue was hurt by a $3.5 million decline from the previous year in collaboration-related licensing and contract revenue, and contract delays in Caliper's Discovery Alliances and Services business.
Analysts were expecting the company to post a loss of 12 cents a share, on revenue of $35.0 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
For the third quarter, Caliper expects revenue of $33 million to $36 million, while it still sees revenue of $142 million to $148 million for 2008.
Analysts were expecting revenue of $35.2 million and $145.6 million for the third quarter and full year, respectively.
