Nov 5 (Reuters) - Cell phone chipmaker Skyworks Solutions Inc (SWKS.O) posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped partly by lower operating expenses, and forecast first-quarter results above analysts' expectations.

The company forecast first-quarter earnings of 25 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $238 million to $242 million.

Skyworks expects a 13 percent to 15 percent revenue growth driven by mobile internet, energy management and diversified analog applications, it said in a statement.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 22 cents a share on revenue of $230.8 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

For the fourth quarter ended Oct. 2, Skyworks earned $56 million, or 32 cents a share, compared with $54.8 million, or 33 cents a share, a year ago.

Revenue dipped 2 percent to $228.1 million.

Excluding items, the company earned 24 cents a share.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 22 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $222.3 million.

Operating expenses dropped 9 percent to $59.6 million.

Shares of the company were up 3 percent at $11.35 in trading after the bell. They closed at $10.97 Thursday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Manasi Phadke in Bangalore; Editing by Unnikrishnan Nair)
