Feb 25 (Reuters) - Diversified manufacturer Teleflex Inc (TFX.N) posted better-than-expected quarterly results, partly helped by higher revenue at its medical and aerospace segments, and backed it 2009 earnings forecast.

The company reported a fourth-quarter profit of $19.6 million, or 49 cents per share, compared with $65.4 million, or $1.66 a share, in the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, it earned $1.04 a share from continuing operations.

Revenue rose 2 percent to $596.5 million. Revenue at both the medical and aerospace segments rose 4 percent in the quarter.

Teleflex, which operates through its medical, aerospace, and commercial segments, reaffirmed its 2009 forecast for earnings from continuing operations of $4.10 to $4.40 a share, before items.

Shares of the company closed at $49.07 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
