BMO CAPITAL MARKETS

The unit of Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO) has hired Alan Laws, most recently a senior research analyst at Merrill Lynch in Denver, as a senior equity analyst to the firm's North American Energy group. It also named Ambrish Srivastava as a senior equity analyst in the firm's technology team. Srivastava had left BMO in 2007 to work at Criterion Capital Management as a senior analyst.

RBC CAPITAL MARKETS

The corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO) named James Caldwell, most recently global head of Banc of America's aerospace, defense and transportation group, as managing director in charge of its new aerospace and defense group.

DUFF & PHELPS

The financial advisory firm named Michael Cochrane, who previously worked at firms including Oppenheimer & Co, Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Lehman Brothers, as leader of its mergers and acquisitions advisory practice.

AVIVA INVESTORS

The asset manager and affiliate of Aviva Plc (AV.L) named Charles Preseau as chief financial officer of its North American unit, reporting to Greg Boal, Aviva Investors North America's chief executive. Preseau, who will lead all finance and operations functions, was previously chief financial officer and treasurer at Promark Global Advisors (formerly General Motors Asset Management).

JEFFERIES & CO (JEF.N)

The investment bank has hired Lisa Pendergast, most recently a managing director in the fixed-income strategies group at RBS Greenwich Capital, as a managing director in its fixed income division's MBS/ABS/CMBS Group.

KEEFE, BRUYETTE & WOODS INC

The investment bank, which is a wholly-owned unit of KBW Inc (KBW.N), said it would create a specialized trading team for the convertible and preferred securities marketplace and appointed Robert Ryon, Brian Lovit and three others to staff this team.

Ryon joins the bank as senior vice president and leader of the convertible team from Ramius LLC, while Lovit joins as a senior convertible trader from Wachovia Securities.

LOMBARD INTERNATIONAL ASSURANCE SA

The company named Norbert Becker as one of its non-executive directors on the company's board. Becker is a founding partner and chairman of Atoz, an independent advisory firm.

LIONTRUST ASSET MANAGEMENT (LIO.L)

The independent fund management group said investment managers Nikki Martin, Rob Cornish and Tom Ayres will join the company from GAM in October.

INTERACTIVE DATA CORP (IDC.N)

The company, which provides financial market data, named Donald Kilburn, Victor Simone and Luke Swanson to the company's board.

Kilburn is the chief executive of Pearson Learning Solutions, a division of Pearson Education. Simone has previously served as the North American and Asian head of the principal strategic investments group at Goldman Sachs (GS.N). Swanson has previously served as communications director for Pearson Plc (PSON.L).

MILLER BUCKFIRE

The independent investment bank named Michael Scott as a managing director, who will head a new U.S. government advisory practice. Scott joins from the Securities Exchange Commission, where he was senior adviser to Chairman Christopher Cox.

AVIZNET

The risk management provider named Tom Watson as chief executive. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Watson had served as the company's chief financial officer.

FI COMPLIANCE SOLUTIONS

The company, which provides corporate governance and compliance solutions to financial institutions, named Peter Buffone as the vice president of sales and channels.

Previously Buffone was responsible for providing risk management solutions to community banks and credit unions through a major information technology provider serving the financial institution sector, the company said.

PIPER JAFFRAY COS (PJC.N)

The middle market investment bank named Martin Brennan as associate in its technology banking team. Brennan was previously senior associate at FirstCapital, a boutique investment bank.

RENAISSANCE CAPITAL

The investment bank named Dmitri Sredin as managing director and head of debt financing for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Sredin joins Renaissance from Troika Dialog, where he was director of debt capital markets.

ALVAREZ & MARSAL

The global professional services firm named Paresh Vaish as a managing director to lead the firm's business consulting and performance improvement practice in the company's Indian office. Previously, Vaish was a partner and director with the Boston Consulting Group in Mumbai.

PERELLA WEINBERG PARTNERS

The company named Christopher Bittman, formerly the chief investment officer of the University of Colorado Foundation, as a partner in its asset management group.
