UPDATE 1-Arrow Q4 profit beats estimates, sees weak Q1

Feb 10 (Reuters) - Electronic-parts and computer-hardware distributor Arrow Electronics (ARW.N) posted a quarterly profit that beat market estimates by a cent, but forecast lower-than-expected first-quarter results, noting it expects caution in the global components business to persist.

The company, which distributes products of Hewlett-Packard Co (HPQ.N), IBM (IBM.N) and Sun Microsystems Inc (JAVA.O), posted fourth-quarter earnings of $43.2 million, or 36 cents a share, compared with $114 million, or 92 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding items, earnings were 60 cents a share.

Sales fell to $4.09 billion from $4.42 billion. Global components sales fell 13 percent to $2.45 billion.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 59 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $4.1 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.

The company, whose major competitors include Avnet Inc (AVT.N) and Nu Horizons Electronics Corp (NUHC.O), expects first-quarter earnings of between 32 cents and 44 cents a share, excluding items, on sales of $3 billion to $3.6 billion.

Analysts on average expect earnings of 47 cents a share, excluding items, on revenue of $3.7 billion.

Shares of the Melville, New York-based company closed at $19.62 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
