UPDATE 1-Roc Oil says no takeover bid received

May 5 (Reuters) - Australia's Roc Oil Co Ltd (ROC.AX) ROC.L said on Tuesday it had not received any takeover proposal, but continued to evaluate all strategic alternatives regarding its assets, ownership and capital position.

"ROC is aware of market rumours that the company may be subject to a takeover bid," the company said in a statement.

Roc Oil was responding to a sharp rise in its share price recently. The London-listed shares of Roc Oil had closed up 32.5 percent on Friday.

On Monday, the Australia-listed shares of the company had risen 21.2 percent.

The company had said last week that it was on target to exceed its 2008 annual production of 11,023 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). (Reporting by Ramkumar in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)
