Nov 2 (Reuters) - Diversified staffing company On Assignment Inc's (ASGN.O) posted a 78 percent drop in quarterly profit, hurt by lower revenue at most of its segments, and forecast fourth-quarter sales below estimates.

The company expects per-share earnings of breakeven to 3 cents a share on revenue of $93 million to $98 million, the company said in a statement.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 1 cent on revenue of $98.8 million.

For the third quarter, the company reported net income of $1.5 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with $6.9 million, or 19 cents a share, a year ago.

Revenue for the quarter fell 39 percent to $98.1 million.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 1 cent a share, before items, on revenue of $98.1 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
