 MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 * Malaysian shares are expected to open little changed on
Friday as firmer U.S. markets balance worries about the
government's assessment of the country's economic performance
for this year.
 * The Malaysian government said on Thursday the economy is
expected to shrink by up to 5 percent in 2009, its biggest fall
in a decade. [ID:nSP416588]
 * "We expect the market to move sideways. There aren't any new
factors to drive the market higher," said an analyst at a local
investment bank. [.KLSE]
 * U.S. stocks climbed more than 1 percent on Thursday as
higher oil prices drove up energy shares and falling yields in
the bond market eased concerns that higher borrowing costs
would hinder economic recovery. [.N]
 * Oil surged past $65 a barrel on Thursday to a fresh
six-month high after OPEC decided to keep output unchanged and
government data showed a steep drop in U.S. crude inventories.

 * Malaysian palm futures ended unchanged on Thursday as some
buyers took some positions after a key industry analyst
predicted that prices of the vegetable oil could reach 3,000

 ASIA MARKETS NEWS - [STXNEWS/AS] - The Indonesian rupiah and
Philippine peso lost ground on Thursday as investors sold
regional stocks amid concerns that rising U.S. Treasury yields
may hamper recovery in the world's largest economy. [EMRG/FRX]
- Most Southeast Asian stocks eased on Thursday, as investors
worried about the U.S. economic recovery, profit takers swooped
on Singapore's CapitaLand and Malaysia fell for a third day on
a bearish GDP outlook. [.SO]
