LONDON (Reuters) - Shares in Swiss bank Julius Baer (BAER.VX) rose 2 percent on Thursday on market talk of bid interest from Britain's Standard Chartered (STAN.L), traders said.

StanChart declined to comment, and Baer was not immediately available for comment.

"There's a rumour doing the rounds that StanChart is to bid 105 Swiss francs (per share) for Julius Baer," a trader said.

At 0722 GMT, Baer shares were up 2 percent at 82.80 Swiss francs, while Standard Chartered was down 0.3 percent.

StanChart executives said on Wednesday they would keep an eye on acquisition opportunities, which could increase in the current turmoil, but refused comment on any specific targets. The bank recently ramped up its private banking business with the purchase of American Express Bank.
