LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) has appointed Colin Grassie as chief executive of its British operation, a newly expanded role that will include relationships with government and regulators, the bank said on Wednesday.

Grassie will build on a previous position, held by Charles Aldington, of the bank's chairman in London, which covered relationships with clients. Aldington will become a senior advisor on selected British client relationships.

"We are investing in our UK franchise and using our leading presence in London as one strong hub from which to serve clients throughout Europe," Juergen Fitschen, head of regional management at Deutsche Bank, said in a statement.

Grassie will chair Deutsche Bank's governance and executive management committees in Britain where the company employs 8,000 people.

Grassie most recently headed the bank's business in Asia-Pacific excluding Japan and is a director of China's Hua Xia Bank (600015.SS), in which Deutsche Bank holds a 13.7 percent equity stake.

The appointments take effect on Aug. 1. (Reporting by Olesya Dmitracova; Editing by Dan Lalor)
