 MILAN, Sept 23 (Reuters) - The following factors could
affect Italian markets on Wednesday.
 Reuters has not verified the newspaper reports, and cannot
vouch for their accuracy. New items are marked with (*).
 UNICREDIT (CRDI.MI)
 The bank most likely will carry out a capital increase of 4
billion euros ($5.92 billion) instead of turning to
government-backed Tremonti bonds, Il Sole 24 Ore said without
citing sources. Chief Executive Alessandro Profumo detailed
options at a Tuesday meeting of the strategy board, including a
possible hybrid bond, it said. Profumo could be pointing towards
a mix of options to boost capital.

  * Il Messaggero said a hybrid bond seemed to have less chance
than a mix of a Tremonti bond with a capital increase, Il
Messaggero said without citing sources. Global coordinators for
a capital hike would be Mediobanca (MDBI.MI), Goldman Sachs
(GS.N) and Merrill Lynch (BAC.N), it said.

 Shares offered in a capital increase could carry a discount
of 20 percent to 30 percent to current market prices, La Stampa
and Il Messaggero said.

  * Shareholders are agreed on the need to boost capital but not
the way to do it, said Giovanni Puglisi, chairman of the Banco
di Sicilia foundation shareholder. He was cited in MF.
 MF said the aim was for the board to agree unanimously.

 ENI (ENI.MI)
 Industrialised Western countries should introduce a carbon
tax as a key way to curb CO2 emissions more efficiently than
existing cap-and-trade systems, the oil and gas major's chief
executive said on Tuesday. [ID:LM354681]

 Italy would not oppose Eni entering the nuclear power
industry, Industry Ministry Undersecretary Stefano Saglia said
in an interview in Corriere della Sera daily. [ID:nLN449300]

  * Eni and power company Enel (ENEI.MI) will receive a combined
1.5 billion euros from the sale of 51 percent of Severenergia to
Gazprom (GAZP.MM) in a previously planned operation, la
Repubblica said citing Enel International executive Carlo
Tamburi.

  * ENEL ENEL.MI
 Chief Executive Fulvio Conti told Il Sole 24 Ore the power
company was open to other nuclear operators but it would keep
the leadership of an atomic consortium in Italy.

 A2A (A2.MI), ACEA (ACE.MI), IRIDE (IRD.MI)
 Italian tax authorities could raise the amount of taxes
municipally owned utilities have to pay to settle a long-running
dispute over former tax breaks that the European Union has since
said amount to state aid. [ID:LM295895]

  * LOTTOMATICA (LTO.MI)

contest for up to four concessions to run scratch and win card
gaming, Poste Italiane Chief Executive Massimo Sarmi said, cited
by Finanza e Mercati.

 SMALL/MID-CAPS

  * ASCOPIAVE (ASCI.MI)
 The power company hopes to conclude talks on a joint venture
with Russian gas shipper Gazprom (GAZP.MM) in October, Chairman
Guido Salton told Finanza & Mercati. Ascopiave also is in talks
with French gas company GDF Suez GDF.PA about an Italian
project.

  * CAMFIN (CAMI.MI)
