STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK Small Caps up 0.3 pct at the close

The FTSE small cap index .FTSC is 0.3 pct higher at the close, outperforming the FTSE 100 .FTSE, which is down 0.6 percent, while the FTSE 250 .FTMC gains 0.3 percent.

John Menzies (MNZS.L) jump 17.9 percent, topping the FTSE Small Cap .FTSC leaderboard, as the company issues a trading update which prompts both Numis Securities and Brewin Dolphin to raise their target prices for the newspaper distribution and aviation services group. [ID:nBNG457463]

Glisten (GLI.L), which has discovered accounting failures at its Halo subsidiary, plunges nearly 30 percent after its rating is cut by house broker KBC Peel Hunt following a profit warning on Wednesday, which cited a poor performance at its fruit and cereal snacks unit. [ID:nBNG495996]
