STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps fall 0.3 pct midday

The FTSE Small Cap index .FTSC falls 0.3 percent in midday trade, while the midcaps .FTMC drop 0.2 percent, but the blue chips .FTSE put on 0.2 percent.

Urban regeneration specialist MJ Gleeson (GLEG.L) is the biggest small cap riser, up 9.1 percent, after its chief executive Chris Holt acquires an initial holding in the company, buying 18,151 shares at 109 pence each.

It also announces the appointment of Jolyon Harrison as managing director of Gleeson Regeneration & Homes. In its full-year results statement at end-September, the firm said Gleeson Regeneration & Homes was trading poorly due to weak market conditions.

UK Coal (UKC.L) falls 2.6 percent after the company issues a trading update, with Numis Securities increasing its 2009 pretax loss estimate for the firm by 12 million pounds. [ID:nLQ114509]
