BRUSSELS, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Belgian holding company Ackermans & van Haaren (ACKB.BR) and Belgian energy company Electrabel (GSZ.PA) will join forces to create a new renewable energy company, a spokeswoman for Electrabel said on Wednesday.

The spokeswoman declined to provide further details.

Belgian daily De Standaard reported the new firm would form a part of Ackermans & van Haaren's newly-created energy segment, one of five key sectors on which the holding focuses.

The Belgian government has asked French utility GDF Suez (GSZ.PA), which owns Electrabel, to invest 500 million euros ($741.8 million) in renewable energy in Belgium from 2010 in return for an extended life for three Belgian nuclear reactors.
