-- Oil firms said they would increase prices in
installments and not go for the full 4 to 5 pesos ($0.08-0.10)
a litre -- the amount they claimed they have to recover -- when
the cap on fuel prices in Luzon is lifted today. (PHILIPPINE

- The Bureau of Customs ordered Pilipinas Shell Petroleum
Corp to pay 7.34 billion pesos in excise taxes and value-added
tax for importations of unleaded gasoline from 2004 up to

- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ordered the release of
6.37 billion pesos to tobacco producing provinces, representing
their 15 percent-share in excise tax collections on tobacco

- SM Development Corp (SMDC.PS) is setting aside 10.4
billion pesos for capital expenditures next year, up from the 7
billion pesos it spent this year, the company said in a

- More people slipped below the poverty line this year,
making it impossible for the Philippines to attain the
Millennium Development Goal of reducing poverty by half by

- Philippine Airlines, a subsidiary of PAL Holdings Inc
(PAL.PS), incurred a net loss of $18.6 million for the fiscal
