NEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks to watch on Friday:

CIT GROUP INC (CIT.N), $1.29, up 22 pct

The lender late Thursday launched a debt-exchange plan that it hopes will prevent a bankruptcy filing. It also asked bondholders to approve a prepackaged plan of reorganization that would allow it to initiate a voluntary filing under Chapter 11 if the debt exchange failed. [ID:nN01265054]

GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (GE.N), $15.83, down 0.9 pct

GE is holding discussions on partnerships or an IPO for its NBC Universal unit, Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt said, as expectations grow about a deal with cable operator Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O). [ID:nBOM441667]

WAL-MART STORES INC (WMT.N), $49, Thursday close

The retailer forecast a slow recovery from challenging U.S. business conditions, though its chairman said the Dow component's Asia operations were "a little better." [ID:nSIN440594]

BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB (BMY.N), $22.10, Thursday close

ASTRAZENECA (AZN.N), $43.50, down 1 pct

An experimental diabetes drug developed by the companies met its main target in a late-stage study, achieving significant reductions in a marker for blood glucose levels. [ID:nL1361836]

ENTEROMEDICS INC (ETRM.O), 50 cents, down 89 pct

The company said its device, Maestro System, for the treatment of obesity, was not effective. [ID:nBNG383656]

BAXTER INTERNATIONAL INC (BAX.N), $55.71, Thursday close

European drugs regulators recommended Baxter's Celvapan vaccine against H1N1 flu for approval on Friday and said it expected the shot to get a license from the European Commission "shortly." [ID:nL2526443]

LCA-VISION INC (LCAV.O), $6.29, Thursday close

The company reported a drop of 29 percent in quarterly procedure volumes. [ID:nBNG169580]

RESOURCES CONNECTION INC (RECN.O) $16.90, Thursday close

The company late Thursday reported a first-quarter loss, hurt by a 51 percent drop in international revenue. [ID:nBNG429288]

STANDARD MICROSYSTEMS CORP (SMSC.O)$22.84, Thursday close

The company late Thursday posted a quarterly profit that beat expectations and forecast higher-than-expected third-quarter revenue. [ID:nBNG536733]

DEMANDTEC INC (DMAN.O)$8.82, Thursday close

The company late Thursday posted quarterly profit in line with Wall Street expectations but forecast third-quarter results below estimates. [ID:nBNG434437]

EDGE PETROLEUM CORP EPEX.O, 44 cents, down 17 pct

The company and its units filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and said it agreed with lenders on plans to sell substantially all of its assets to a third party. [ID:nBNG452509]
