LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After years of mugging for the camera, sitcom veteran Tim Allen finally is sitting in the feature director's chair.

Allen will direct, as well as star in, "Crazy on the Outside", an indie comedy about an ex-con who finds life beyond bars is much more challenging, especially once he enters his sister's world. Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen and Kelsey Grammer are in negotiations to round out the cast.

Allen's directing experience to date is one episode of "Home Improvement", which ran on ABC from 1991 to 1999.

Last in theatres with the hit "Wild Hogs", Allen next will be seen in "Redbelt", which opens April 25.
