NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks on the move on Tuesday:

KRAFT FOODS INC (KFT.N), $26.30, down 6.4 pct

The food group and Dow component went public with a $16.7 billion bid for Cadbury (CBRY.L), which the company rejected. [ID:nN08267441]

GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (GE.N), $14.60, up 5.2 pct

JPMorgan upgraded the Dow component to "overweight" and said that any news on company fundamentals could be magnified. [ID:nBNG44387]

FACET BIOTECH CORP (FACT.O), $16.06, up 4.2 pct

BIOGEN IDEC INC (BIIB.O), $51.70, up 1.3 pct

Facet rejected an unsolicited bid by Biogen to acquire it for $14.50 a share, saying the offer was inadequate and not in the best interests of shareholders. [ID:nN08267069]

OSIRIS THERAPEUTICS INC (OSIR.O), $7.76, down 36 pct

The company said two late-stage trials testing its lead product to treat a rare condition that affects bone marrow transplant patients failed to meet the main study goals. [ID:nBNG285054]

PHARMASSET INC (VRUS.O), $20.30, up 4.1 pct

Robert W. Baird upgraded the company to "outperform" from "neutral" ahead of a key drug safety monitoring board review of RG7128, the company's experimental hepatitis C drug. [ID:nBNG457086]

BOYD GAMING CORP (BYD.N), $9.43, down 3.8 pct

JPMorgan downgraded the company to "underperform" on weak prospects for Las Vegas, Atlantic City and other gaming markets. [ID:nN08262020]

BARRICK GOLD CORP (ABX.N), $41.89, up 4.6 pct (U.S. shares)

The company has entered into an agreement to sell 25 percent of the life-of-mine silver production from its Pascua-Lama project in South America to Silver Wheaton Corp (SLW.TO). [ID:nN08265896]

LAS VEGAS SANDS CORP (LVS.N), $16.48, up 6.3 pct

JPMorgan raised its price target on the company to $17 from $12, expecting it to benefit from an improvement in its Macau market. [ID:nBNG202179]

NATIONAL PENN BANCSHARES INC (NPBC.O), $5.16, down 0.6 pct

The company plans to offer about $125 million of its common stock. [ID:nBNG462691]

SMITHFIELD FOODS INC (SFD.N), $12.76, down 2.2 pct

The food company reported an adjusted first-quarter loss that was wider than expectations. [ID:nN08442691]

C&D TECHNOLOGIES INC (CHP.N), $2.54, up 20 pct

The company reported its second-quarter results. [ID:nWNAB7192]

BOEING CO (BA.N), $49.60, up 0.9 pct

The Dow component is confident it can deliver the first of its repeatedly delayed 787 Dreamliners to All Nippon Airways (9202.T) in the fourth quarter of 2010, a senior executive said, adding that the company doesn't expect the global aviation market to recover until 2011 and return to growth in 2012. DISH NETWORK CORP (DISH.O), $17.46, up 1.3 pct

A U.S. district court awarded TiVo Inc (TIVO.O) nearly $200 million in damages in its long-running patent case with Dish Network Corp (DISH.O) and EchoStar Corp (SATS.O). [ID:nN04180323]
