TORONTO, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Canadian private-equity firm Onex Corp (OCX.TO) said on Wednesday its took a loss in the third quarter, due largely to goodwill impairment charges stemming from its stake in aircraft manufacturer Hawker Beechcraft.

Onex said it lost $180 million ($171 million), or C$1.48 a share, in the three months ended Sept 30. That compared with a profit of C$38 million, or 30 Canadian cents a share reported for the same period a year earlier.

Revenue in the quarter dropped 14 percent to C$6.1 billion, the company said.

The company said it has about C$900 million in cash or liquid investments, no debt and US$3.5 billion of uncalled third-party capital available, making it "well positioned to actively participate in significant investment opportunities."
