Chilean peso closes at 7-week low on U.S. credit fears

SANTIAGO, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The Chilean peso closed at a seven-week low on Thursday, as global markets slid on continued concerns about U.S. mortgage credits, traders said.

The Chilean peso CHILJ CLP=CL fell 1.0 percent to 528.00/528.30 per dollar compared to Tuesday's close at 522.70/523.20.

It is the peso's weakest close since June 27, when it closed at 529.50/529.80 per dollar.
