NEW YORK, June 22 (Reuters) - Mirant Corp's (MIR.N) 682-megawatt Unit 7 at the Pittsburg natural-gas-fired power station in California returned to service by Sunday afternoon, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit shut by June 18 for planned and normal reasons.

The 1,311 MW station is in Contra Costa County, about 40 miles east of San Francisco. There are three units at the station, including the 312 MW Unit 5, the 317 MW Unit 6 and the 682 MW Unit 7.

The other units remained available for service.

One MW powers about 700 homes in California.

Mirant, of Atlanta, owns and operates more than 10,000 MW of generating capacity and market energy commodities in the United States. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by John Picinich)
