UPDATE 2-Presstek wins preliminary round in patent suit
(Adds share price)
WASHINGTON, July 24 (Reuters) - Presstek Inc (PRST.O) has won a preliminary round in a patent lawsuit filed against Vim Technologies and other companies, an administrative law judge for the International Trade Commission said in a ruling posted on Friday.
Presstek had accused VIM Technologies, Recognition Systems, AteCe Canada, Guaranteed Service and Supplies of Wisconsin, and Hanita Coatings RCA Ltd of infringing its technology for laser imageable lithographic printing plates.
The plates are used to print newsletters, letterhead and book covers.
Presstek says VIM Technologies used its patented technology for making the plates, and arranged for them to be manufactured by Hanita Coatings RCA. The other four companies distribute Hanita's plates.
Presstek won a similar case against VIM Technologies and its distributor in Dusseldorf, Germany, the company said.
The entire commission will review the ruling by the ITC's administrative law judge. That decision is due in November.
Presstek's share price rose 8.7 percent to close at $1.75 on Nasdaq.
