UPS CFO-No risk to US domestic package pricing
CHICAGO, July 24 (Reuters) - Despite a sluggish U.S. domestic package market, United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS.N) sees no risk that it will have to lower prices, a top executive said on Tuesday.
"In the U.S. domestic package business we have seen a rational approach to pricing in the market," Chief Financial Officer Scott Davis said in a telephone interview. "Looking forward I see nothing on the horizon that would change that."
He added that the world's largest package delivery company's supply chain and freight unit, which along with international package volume growth helped drive an increase in second-quarter profit, should see "similar if not better growth" for the rest of 2007.
Davis also said UPS would evaluate the fuel surcharge policy for its freight business following an announcement on Monday by main rival FedEx Corp (FDX.N) that it was cutting its fuel surcharge by 25 percent. (Reporting by Nick Carey)
