White House: progress in Doha talks, issues remain

WASHINGTON
Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:13pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Friday that "solid progress" was being made in global trade talks, but significant issues remained to be resolved and a few large emerging market economies needed to jump on board.

"Significant issues still remain to be resolved, and we remain concerned that a few large emerging market economies are failing to join a growing consensus," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.

"It is critical that these few large emerging market economies contribute to a successful outcome in these discussions," he said. "Solid progress is being made and we encourage negotiators to build on this momentum."
