HSINCHU, Taiwan, June 26 (Reuters) - Powerchip Semiconductor (5346.TWO), Taiwan's biggest DRAM chip maker, said on Friday its capital spending will likely be below T$5 billion ($152 million), far less than its previous forecast issued late last year. Powerchip spokesman Eric Tang told Reuters the latest figure on the sidelines of the company's annual shareholders' meeting.

In October, Powerchip, one of the DRAM companies that has been suffering from quarters of losses as the sector underwent its worst downturn, said it saw 2009 capex at T$10 billion. (US$1=T$32.9) (Reporting by Roger Tung, Editing by Ken Wills)
