Algeria jails man over membership of Iraq group
ALGIERS (Reuters) - An Algerian court sentenced a man to three years in jail on Tuesday for belonging to an al Qaeda linked group fighting U.S.-led forces in Iraq, the official APS news agency reported.
It said Brahim Raked, 28, had admitted to joining the Islamic State of Iraq and taking part in four attacks against U.S. forces after arriving in Iraq in February 2007.
APS said Raked left Iraq two months later after the group's leader ordered him to carry out a suicide attack. Raked was arrested in Syria on his way back to Algeria.
APS said the court had also fined Raked 100,000 dinars ($1,428).
