Senate's Reid has no concerns with Geithner

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he had no concerns about what he described were "hiccups" with President-elect Barack Obama's Treasury secretary nominee Timothy Geithner.

"There's a few little hiccups but that's basically what they are, I am not concerned at all," the Nevada Democrat told reporters before a meeting of House and Senate Democrats to discuss the economic stimulus package they are considering.

Geithner ran into problems over a housekeeper who worked briefly for him without proper immigration papers and several years when Geithner did not pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for himself.

"In my opinion, these mistakes were not at all disqualifying," said Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat. "I continue to strongly support his nomination and given the tough economic conditions, hope we can confirm him as quickly as possible."
