Recruits Luminaries from Open Source Community

SAN FRANCISCO, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Source Business
Conference -- REvolution Computing, a New Haven, CT-based provider of software
for computational statistics, today announced the formation of an advisory
board that includes many of the leading figures in the creation and
development of open source communities.
David Henderson, Director of Community for REvolution Computing, will be
the director of the board, charged with coordinating the exchange and
discussion between the board, the 'R' community and developers. The board
initially comprises:

-- Larry Augustin, Managing Partner, Augustin Ventures. Prior board
member of XenSource and JBoss; Founder/CEO of VA Linux
-- Brian Behlendorf, a lead architect in the creation of the Apache
       Project
-- Philippe Cases, a serial entrepreneur and current venture capitalist
-- David Henderson, Director of Community for REvolution Computing
-- Dirk Hohndel, prior Chief Technology Officer of SuSE, who is the
director of Linux and Open Source Strategy at Intel Corp.
-- Pete Kronowitt, Software Strategist for Intel Corp.

Additional board members are expected to be named at a later date.
"We have created an advisory board that brings together thought leaders
and pioneers in the open source community," said Richard Schultz, CEO of
REvolution Computing. "Our advisors will help guide our development and growth
as we provide support for 'R' and the 'R' community."
Brian Behlendorf said: "I look forward to helping REvolution Computing and
the 'R' platform grow its user base into a premiere open source community."
He added, "REvolution has an excellent product, addressing a big gap in a very
technically demanding space, which should draw a significant amount of
developer attention and drive a vibrant software ecosystem with REvolution at
its core."
Larry Augustin said: "As the new de-facto standard in data analysis, 'R'
is helping to solve important industry problems in life sciences, finance, and
beyond. Through the commercial open source RPro system, REvolution Computing
is disrupting the market by making powerful data analysis tools available to a
whole generation of scientists and engineers who previously couldn't afford
them," adding, "I'm excited about joining the board at the cusp of the 'R'
movement."
"We are proud to have such a prestigious group of individuals on our board
and are excited to be working together as we address the wider marketplace,"
Schultz said.
The creation of the board comes just weeks after Intel Capital, the global
investment arm of Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC), announced it had invested in the
Series A financing of REvolution Computing. Intel Capital said it was
attracted to REvolution Computing's commercially supported RPro and ParallelR
software, which enhances and optimizes the open source 'R' statistical
programming environment for high-performance computing. Further information
on the board members:
