ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 22, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the IT
company for a sustainable and secure world, has announced today that it has
received a new project award from Petrochina to implement its real-time
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System, SCADA OASyS, at West-East Gas
Pipeline Phase II. Telvent's systems already control Petrochina's crude oil
facilities. Now the Chinese energy company has decided to place its confidence
in Telvent's systems by allowing them to also manage its gas operations.
Telvent will ensure the right operation of an 8,700 kilometers pipeline that
will cross the entire country of China, helping to connect the Western with the
Eastern market, and giving response to the increasing civil and industrial
demand of natural gas in the country. Telvent's systems will control the gas
transmission and enhance accurate and reliable real-time information, key for
decision making.
Beijing Main Control Center and Langfang Backup Control Center will be
permanently connected. The designed solution will be able to include the new gas
pipelines, which are now under construction.
This project demonstrates the long term vision of Petrochina in the gas business
as a clean energy, but also Telvent's strong competitive position with this
customer, that strengthens and expands its market in China. Manuel Sanchez,
Telvent's Chairman and CEO, has stressed the importance of this new contract,
"because of its strategic significance in the complex Chinese gas market and
also because it shows Petrochina's confidence on Telvent's smart systems".
Telvent has previously executed three similar projects to control two oil
pipelines in China, the Lan-Cheng-Yu pipeline for the transportation of
petroleum products, and the West Oil Pipeline in Western China, for the
transportation of petroleum products as well as crude oil. Recently, Telvent has
also successfully completed the OASyS SCADA project to implement its SCADA OASyS
in Lan-Zheng-Chang oil pipeline, also managed by Petrochina.
