Control4 Enters Strategic Relationship with Black & Decker to Develop Interoperable Residential Access Control Solutions
Enables Automation of Home Door Locks, Including Baldwin(R),
Kwikset(R), and Weiser Lock(R) Utilizing Control4's Platform and
ZigBee Radio Technology
DENVER--(Business Wire)--
Control4, a leader in affordable IP-based home control and
entertainment systems, and Black & Decker, the industry leader in
residential security hardware, marketed under the Baldwin(R),
Kwikset(R), and Weiser Lock(R) brands, today announced a strategic
relationship to develop Black & Decker's interoperable residential
access control solutions. Through this partnership, homeowners will be
able to manage and control the ZigBee radio-equipped door locks
directly via the Control4(R) home automation platform. This innovative
feature will allow homeowners to create events triggered by the push
of a button from anywhere in the home or remote through the internet.
Homeowners can automatically turn off all the lights, adjusts the
temperature, and after a few seconds delay, lock the doors, using the
Control4(R) system.
Both Control4 and Black & Decker will be offering a sneak peek of
these residential access control solutions at the 2008 CEDIA Expo in
Booths #480 and #493, respectively.
"Black & Decker is a world-class organization, and our
collaborative efforts to develop interoperability between Control4's
platform and their residential access control solutions have been a
pleasure for our entire team," said Will West, chief executive officer
of Control4. "We continue to demonstrate our commitment to collaborate
with a wide range of companies that provide products for the home.
There are nearly endless opportunities for all sorts of companies who
want to be a part of the digital home to discover and develop
synergies with the Control4 platform."
Black & Decker will offer the wireless residential access control
solutions in its Baldwin, Kwikset and Weiser Lock brands of locksets.
These motorized electronic locksets and the Control4 platform will
work seamlessly with daily routine events, such as automatically
locking the doors at a certain time each night or as part of regular
occurrences, like leaving the home. Homeowners can also utilize the
Control4(R) 4Sight Remote Access to open the door for a repairman and
then relock the door when the job is complete.
"From a product development perspective, this new offering
represents exciting opportunities and new channels for Black &
Decker," said Dave Albert, vice president of Brand Marketing and
Business Development, Black & Decker Hardware and Home Improvement
Group. "Working with companies like Control4 to expand our product
capabilities offers long-term benefits for Black & Decker and our
customers."
Black & Decker's new residential access control offerings are
scheduled for introduction in summer 2009.
