WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information
systems, today announced that it has released a podcast and executive
summary of "Forward-Thinking CIOs Debate Hot Issues Facing Hospitals
in 2008." This Picis-sponsored event, moderated by Dave Garets, CEO of
HIMSS Analytics, brought together chief information officers (CIOs)
from renowned healthcare institutions to discuss top-of-mind issues,
such as interoperability, quality improvement, new regulatory and
reimbursement regulations, and use of scorecards, portals and other
technologies in healthcare.

The panelists -- each representing a Picis customer from different
geographic areas of North America -- addressed the challenges their
institutions face and speculated on what the future will hold for CIOs
and hospitals everywhere. The event featured: Richard McKnight, CIO,
Novant Health, Winston-Salem, N.C.; William Spooner, CIO, Sharp
HealthCare, San Diego, Calif.; Joseph Sullivan, CIO, Saint Barnabas
Health Care System, Toms River, N.J.; and Judy Middleton, CIO, William
Osler Health Center, Brampton, Ontario.

"In the near future, reimbursement will link more closely with
clinical indicators and conceptually it may make sense that your
revenue cycle systems ought to be tightly integrated with your
clinical system," predicts William Spooner, CIO, Sharp HealthCare.

According to Richard McKnight, CIO of Novant Health, "The most
pressing issue I have is delivering a higher level of automation for
doctors, nurses, etc. so that the patient information is available
wherever the patient is, by whoever needs that information -- and
computers make that happen."

leading CIOs in the industry had to say about today's most pressing
challenges and their plans for leveraging technology.
