BEVERLY, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Five members of the Women's Network of Electric Insurance Company,
Beverly, MA volunteered at the 7th annual SMART Girls Summit hosted by
Girls Incorporated Lynn at North Shore Community College in June. The
SMART (Science, Math and Relevant Technology) Girls Summit introduces
at risk, low income girls ages 6-18 to careers in math, science and
technology through a series of hands-on workshops.
Electric Insurance employees Maria Deforge, Jocelyn Wegryn, Susan
Seaver, Martha Sousa and Patricia Matthews assisted participants and
workshop presenters. "I worked in the session taught by Medtronic
engineers and learned how to use high-tech devices to implant a
catheter and stint through the main artery in the leg all the way to
the heart!" said Wegryn. "The girls were enthralled and so were the
adults. It was a great experience." Deforge and Seaver helped GE
Aviation engineers demonstrate how helicopters work, and helped
participants build their own from paper and paperclips to see whose
could fly the longest and in the most accurate flight pattern. "The
information and products were so fascinating," Deforge said.
The Women's Network at Electric Insurance Company is a voluntary
organization dedicated to fostering women's professional development
and personal growth. A proud supporter of Girls Incorporated Lynn
(www.girlsinclynn.org), Electric Insurance also sponsors the
