Seneca Nation To Testify at Cigarette Tax Collection Hearings in Manhattan

Seneca Leaders will stress why New York State has no authority to collect
Cigarette Taxes from Seneca businesses



WHAT:
Dozens of Seneca Nation members will travel to New York to attend the State
Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations hearing on the
State's attempt to collect taxes on cigarettes sold on Indian reservations. 

Seneca Nation representatives will testify at the public hearing on the
treaty-protected right to free trade and commerce. Testimony will detail
Nation's ground-breaking efforts to regulate its tobacco industry through
state-of-the-art product stamping and oversight of wholesale and retail
operations. Seneca leaders will also discuss the $100 million-plus, annual
spin-off benefit of the Nation's tobacco trade to the New York State economy.
