#1 Star Wars Artist Dave Dorman Releases New Art D-I-Y DVDs: Portion of Sales Going to Children of Active Military
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. & CHICAGO--(Business Wire)--
Known to his colleagues as the "nicest guy in comics" and to his
fans as the #1 Star Wars Artist, Dave Dorman is finally spilling his
coveted, never-before-revealed trade secrets in his new two-DVD
series, "Illustration Techniques with Dave Dorman" through Hollywood's
The Gnomon Workshop. Dorman, son of deceased Air Force Lieutenant
Colonel Jack N. Dorman, has earmarked a portion of the DVD sales for
the children of active military who want to attend Hollywood's
prestigious Gnomon School of Visual Effects (http://www.gnomon3d.com).
"I remember how tight money was as a military kid when I was trying to
get my art education," Dorman explained. "If I can help even one
family out, then something very good has come from this project." The
DVDs are available now at http://www.TheGnomonWorkshop.com,
http://www.DaveDorman.com and in artist supply stores nationwide;
Volume 1 (pencil illustration) is 120 minutes long and retails for
$49.95; Volume 2 (traditional oil painting) is 140 minutes long and
retails for $59.95.
Dorman attended St. Mary's College of Maryland for one year before
transferring to the Joe Kubert School of Comic Book Design in New
Jersey. After a year at the new school with its limited curriculum,
Dorman left and taught himself in the style of his idols, Frank
Frazetta, Enki Bilal and Moebius (Jean Henri Gaston Giraud). "Those
watching my DVDs will be surprised by my controversial and unorthodox
techniques, such as mixing oils and acrylics, but you can do these
things if you don't have an over-opinionated art teacher looking over
your shoulder telling you otherwise," Dorman explained.
Dorman, who was voted by the fans as the #1 Star Wars Artist of
All Time and who has sold George Lucas over 90 of his original oil
paintings, won his Eisner Award (the Oscar of the comic book industry)
for his work on Aliens: Tribes. His fans worldwide collect his work on
Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Batman, Captain
America, G.I. Joe, World of Warcraft, Alien, Predator, and Alien V.
Predator, Magic: The Gathering, King Kong, Lord of the Rings, Harry
Potter and more. Dorman exhibits yearly at Comic-Con, the nation's
largest comic book and pop culture convention
http://www.comic-con.org. For more information on Dave Dorman, please
