Learn How to Conduct Business With U.S. Government at Timely Seminar at Skokie
Library on Friday, Nov. 20
GLENVIEW, Ill., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Doing Business With the Government at
the local, state and federal levels is the focus of a timely seminar being
presented by the North Suburban Business Development Foundation (NSBDF) of the
Skokie, IL Chamber of Commerce on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 8 am to 10:30
am at the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton St., Skokie, IL. The event--which
has a $10 admission fee--is sponsored by State Rep. Lou Lang, (D) 16th House
District of Illinois.
"We believe this first-time event will stimulate area businesses and
entrepreneurs in thinking about the ways they can work effectively with
governmental agencies, while gaining an understanding of the procurement
process, eligibility requirements and varied contracting guidelines," said
Howard Meyer, executive director of the Skokie, IL Chamber of Commerce.
According to Meyer, the U.S. Government is the world's largest purchaser of
goods and services exceeding $225 billion annually. "Virtually everything you
can think of is purchased in both large and small quantities. So, undoubtedly
whatever service or product businesses are selling is being sought by all
levels of government," he added.
One of the common misconceptions is the government only deals in large
purchases. While it's true airplanes and submarines are purchased for billions
of dollars, this level of buying accounts for less than 5% of government
purchases. The majority of purchases are for $5,000 or less.
To RSVP for the NSBDF program, call the Skokie Chamber at 847.673.0240 or send
an email to events@skokiechamber.org.
The NSBDF is a not-for-profit organization designed to provide the Chicago
area north suburban communities with enriched opportunities for economic
growth. It was established as an out growth of the Skokie Chamber of
Commerce.
