The One Page Survival Guide for Financial Advisors...

Thu Sep 18, 2008 10:30am EDT
RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hoople Group, a marketing firm
that works with financial advisors, offers the following tips for financial
advisors to help their clients and maintain sanity:
    1. Get out from under your desk -- Your clients need to hear from you when
things are rocky. Have you lived through big declines before? Share those
stories with your clients and show the big picture, not just this week's bad
news.
    2. Smile -- Nobody wants to work with someone who looks like their puppy
just got hit by a truck. Put out some positive energy to your clients.
    3. Stop staring at your screen. How much time did you spend yesterday
watching Bloomberg? Get out of the office and have human interactions.
    4. Plan a client-focused event with industry experts, including you, to
talk about what's going on. If you're not offering advice to your clients,
someone else might be.
    5. Take care of your health. If you're downing Xanax and Avapro and
washing it down with Maalox, you're heading for trouble.
    6. Share what you're going through with your spouse or partner. I know
you're a macho financial advisor, but you need someone to just sit and listen.
(Don't choose a bartender for this role.)
    7. Get involved in the community. Pick some kind of project to get
involved with that involves something greater than yourself. A little
perspective is a good thing.
    8. Look around your branch and see who needs help. You know that
squirrelly junior FA who sweats a lot and looks lost? Why not be a mensch and
sit them down and share your experiences with them? Helping others will make
you feel better.
    9. Call The Hoople Group at (804) 447-4032 and let's talk. We're offering
a free session to see what you're doing and we'll make suggestions on what you
might do to help your practice grow in good times, and in bad. Like a
bartender, we won't even ask your name. We're all in this together, so pull up
a chair and let's talk.
