Simplot and Blue Source Forge Alliance to Serve the Carbon Market Needs of American Farmers

Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:36am EDT

BOISE, Idaho--(Business Wire)--
International food and agribusiness leader J. R. Simplot Company and leading
emissions reduction project developer and offset marketer, Blue Source LLC,
today announced the formation of a strategic alliance to assist American farmers
interested in engaging in the carbon economy.

This alliance will support the progressive carbon programs of current
agriculture and American farming operations. The two companies will help farmers
identify and capture opportunities related to reducing their greenhouse gas
emissions through sustainable farming practices such as reduced tillage,
preservation and restoration of grassland, and nutrient management.

Simplot has served the needs of the agricultural community for decades and
practices their core value of long-term sustainability across their integrated
food system. Their focus on sustainable practices provides them with the
commitment and experience to assist growers seeking benefits associated with
sustainable farming practices. This alliance will provide growers with
everything needed to capture those benefits, from collecting and managing data,
to realizing revenue from carbon offset sales. The strategic alliance will
utilize The Agri-Data Solution as the data platform to document carbon
sequestration activities.

"There is significant market opportunity for high-quality offsets generated by
American farmers," said Blue Source Vice President Roger Williams. "This new
alliance is allowing the great farming networks of North America to fully engage
in the current carbon market, and we will now be able to work more closely with
farming operations, where substantial offsets can be identified through land
management and operational initiatives."

"Agriculture operations offer significant opportunities to reduce and contain
greenhouse gas emissions and many of the farmers we work with are interested in
taking advantage of the economic benefits afforded through the sale of carbon
offsets," said Terry Uhling, Simplot Senior Vice President, General Counsel and
Secretary. "This new alliance with Blue Source will help our farming communities
acquire incremental sources of revenue and make continued contributions to
improving our environment."
