BURLINGTON, Mass.--(Business Wire)--Alpha Software's Alpha Five Version 8 has been named a finalist in
the 18th Annual Jolt Product Excellence Awards, the "Oscars" of the
software development industry. The editors of Dr. Dobb's Journal
(DDJ), published by CMP Technology, selected Alpha Five as one of six
finalists in the category of Best Development Environment. The Jolts
are presented annually to "recognize the most innovative,
trend-making, ahead-of-the-curve" application development products,
according to DDJ's editors.

Winners of the 18th Annual Jolt Awards will be announced on March
5 at the Software Development Conference and Expo (SD West '08), in
Santa Clara, at a gala hosted by journalist Robert X. Cringely. Other
finalists in the category include Developer Express Inc.'s
CodeRush/Refactor! Pro, JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA, ActiveState's Komodo
IDE 4, Sun Microsystems' NetBeans IDE 6, and QNX Software Systems' QNX
Momentics IDE 4.

"Alpha Five is in good company," says Richard Rabins, Co-Chairman
of Alpha Software. "We set out to create a world-class development
platform when we designed Alpha Five Version 8, and this nomination
shows we accomplished that goal. Whether we take the Jolt Award home
or not, being named a finalist is a high honor that only a few vendors
have achieved. We thank the Jolt Award judges for recognizing Alpha
Five as one of the year's most innovative products for developers."

For the Development Environments category, the Jolt Award judges
are looking for "the ultimate development environment" for developers.
This includes innovative programming languages, source code editors,
and integrated development environments (IDEs), according to DDJ's
editors.

"No publication has more experience covering programming,
languages, platforms, and tools than Dr. Dobb's, which has chronicled
software development for some 30 years," says Selwyn Rabins,
co-chairman and head of development at Alpha Software. "This is a
great day for our developers, who work incredibly hard to keep Alpha
Five's capabilities ahead of the pack. This nomination proves we are
delivering a platform that professional developers can use with
confidence."
